Te Rau Aroha Alignment
What Is Te Rau Aroha Alignment?
Te Rau Aroha Alignment®, founded by Marama Mata in 2020, is a healing modality grounded in the Māori health framework Te Whare Tapa Whā (developed by Sir Mason Durie), which recognises the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, spiritual, and whānau wellbeing.
The programme guides students to:
• Explore their life timelines and release past trauma, emotional blockages, and limiting beliefs
• Deepen connection to the spiritual self, ancestral wisdom, and the energy of IO
• Work with kawakawa, a sacred healing rākau central to the modality
Training is delivered through House of Rehua, an approved training provider with the International Institute for Complementary Therapists (IICT). Graduates become certified Te Rau Aroha Alignment® practitioners, recognised to deliver this healing modality professionally.
Is This Programme For You?
This is suitable for wāhine who:
• Feel called to learn Rongoā Māori healing practices
• Wish to support the wellbeing of whānau and community
• Are committed to learning within a tikanga Māori framework
• Are open to personal and spiritual growth
• Are Rongoā Māori practitioners, nurses, midwives, GPs, allied health professionals, or mental health support workers.
Students are mothers, professionals, and practitioners of other modalities who want to build their own clinic practice, run workshops, and add traditional knowledge to their expertise — while doing their own inner healing work at the same time.
How the Programme Is Delivered?
Te Rau Aroha Alignment is taught through online learning combined with in-person wānanga, including:
• Wānanga-based group learning
• Hands-on practice sessions

Graduate Voices (Testimonials)
These are a few of the voices of wāhine who have walked this journey. They are now practitioners, leaders, and community healers — carrying this kaupapa into their hapū, iwi, and communities across Aotearoa.
Our mahi began long before I was born — passed down and guided through generations. Over the years, we have worked alongside Māori health organisations, on marae, in Māori-owned clinics, within our communities, and from our own homes. Every person who comes to us carries their own story. Some experience physical pain within their body, while others carry deep hurt within their mind or spirit. Throughout the years, we have supported people experiencing pain in all parts of the body. Many have also been under the care of doctors and hospital specialists. Some have told us they experienced significant relief from pain and greater clarity of mind following their mirimiri sessions. Becoming ACC accredited has been an important milestone. It provides recognition for the work we do and helps make these services more accessible for people who may not otherwise be able to afford them. Time and time again I have witnessed people leave with renewed hope, reduced pain, greater peace, and a stronger sense of well-being. The outcomes we have witnessed have changed lives.

This next stage of my learning took Te Rau Aroha Alignment to another level — teaching me a new discipline that I could first utilise for myself and then pass on to others. I would describe this journey as transformational. The learning of the three heart centres has become an intrinsic part of my life. It has enabled me to navigate my own emotions and model this practice with others. I model the three heart centres in my workplace and with the people I serve - hapū māmā and pēpi up to 3 years old - in my role as a Te Ara Tauawhi whānau support worker. I utilise the same process within the community through a wānanga I created called Te Mauri o te Kawakawa. The people I serve have described this wānanga as inspirational, empowering, healing, connecting, and motivational.

Since completing Te Rau Aroha Alignment®, I have experienced significant personal and professional growth. It has strengthened my confidence to stand firmly in my own mātauranga, trust my intuition, and carry Rongoā Māori with integrity, humility and aroha. Te Rau Aroha Alignment® gave me the confidence to lead with authenticity while remaining grounded in who I am. It reminded me that healing is not simply about treating people - it is about restoring whakapapa, identity, wairua and hope. Thank you for creating a kaupapa that empowers wāhine Māori to lead from a place of authenticity, mātauranga and aroha. Your belief in us extends far beyond the training itself - it creates a ripple effect that reaches our whānau, hapū, iwi and future generations.
